5 Tips for a Safe Super Bowl Party

Whether you’re a die-hard football fan or just in it for the commercials, it’s always fun to gather around with friends and family for the big game. But before you gear up for party planning mode, let’s hit on 5 safety tips to ensure your Super Bowl Party is fumble-free.

1. Food Safety

If you’re the designated chef for the day, it goes without saying – but keep an eye on that stove. Grease fires and kitchen mishaps can happen fast, so don’t get distracted while whipping up those game-day snacks. And if grilling’s on the menu, take it outside and never leave the grill unattended. Also, be sure the grill is positioned away from people and property.

2. Secure the TV

With everyone hyped up during the game, the last thing you need is a toppled-over television (that would really suck). Make sure it’s securely mounted or positioned, especially if any kiddos are around. And if you’ve got any fragile decor, consider relocating it to a safer spot to avoid any accidental breakages or injuries.

3. Clear Walkways

Before your guest’s arrival, ensure your home’s exterior, driveway, stairs, and walkways are free of any potential tripping or slipping risks to prevent accidents. And if you live in a colder climate, make sure you clear any ice or snow from pathways for your partygoers.

4. Know Your State’s Laws

Here’s a serious one: know your state’s Social Host Liability Laws. In some places, hosts can be held responsible for accidents involving guests who’ve had a few too many. So be mindful of how much everyone’s indulging and have a plan in place to get folks home safely if need be.

5. Responsible Transportation

Speaking of which, if someone’s had a bit too much to drink, have a game plan ready. Designated drivers, ridesharing, or just crashing at your place until they sober up are all good options. And remember, food is your friend! Keep those snacks coming throughout the evening to help pace the drinking. If need be, opt to stop serving alcohol at the beginning of the third quarter of the game and set out some football-themed desserts. These tips could save you from a social host liability case.

Combine the excitement of the game with a safe atmosphere, and you’re set to host the perfect touchdown celebration. Cheers to a Super Bowl party that’s a winner on all fronts (no matter who you’re rooting for).
